People across the state are being advised to stay indoors Friday due to very unhealthy air quality, with a “Code Purple” alert in effect.
The conditions are especially dangerous for people with respiratory issues.
This issue is fine particulate matter, which are small enough to get in your lungs and cause inflammation. Try to stay inside and use air conditioning if you have it, since it helps filter the air. While driving make sure the recirculation button is activated while running your AC.
The “hazardous” air is also prompting many activities to cancel and businesses to close.
Kennywood, Sandcastle & Soakzone are all closed because of the poor air quality.
All City and County pools are closed along with the North and South Park golf courses along with the PNC Carousel in Schenley Plaza.
And the UPMC Stroke Survivor bike event is canceled.
Several other community pools are closed to day along with other local events.
As of Friday morning, the popular Downtown event Picklesburgh is still moving forward as planned.

Due to unhealthy air quality in our area, all County-owned pools, spray parks, and golf courses will be closed today, July 17. In addition, tonight's concert at South Park has been cancelled. The Summer Concert Series will pick back up on Sunday, July 19 at Hartwood Acres.
