Pittsburgh Veteran: 'It feels like we just kind of packed up in the middle of the night and wished them good luck'

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio KDKA) - Thousands of American and Afghani civilians are still stranded in Afghanistan as the August 31 evacuation deadline approaches.

The now terrorist-led country has taken a complete turnaround from just two weeks ago.

"I think it's heartbreaking to see the people of Afghanistan suffering again," said Jason Wylie, Veteran of Afghanistan and Iraq. "We feel like we've failed them - even though we know better, and we know the troops aren't the ones that failed them - it's still a difficult scenario and scene to watch."

Wylie does not think the U.S. left the country at the right time.

"It feels like we just kind of packed up in the middle of the night and wished them good luck," Wylie said.

Wylie tells us the U.S. has basically given the Taliban a country to operate out of.
