Pittsburgh Water says it's making progress in cleaning catch basins and storm inlets that were impacted by Thursday night's storms.
The water authority says the storm produced more rainfall than the sewer system is designed to handle.
Pittsburgh Water spokesperson Rebecca Zito says crews continue to respond to problem spots while also assessing where future improvements can be made.
“The crews, they are going around the city and making sure that our catch basins, our storm inlets, that they are clear of debris and they’re able to accept additional rainwater,” said Zito.
And, we continue to learn more about the impact of Thursday night's storms on the region.
The City says swift water rescue teams from both the police and the fire departments had to rescue a trapped UPS driver from a flooded underpass on Beechwood Boulevard.
Several people were also trapped in their vehicles on Technology Drive and Bates Street as well as rescuing a boat that had become disabled.
Widespread power outages continue around Southwestern PA.
North Huntingdon remains among the hardest hit with 6,600 customers without power.
