A local woman claims she was drinking an iced tea from a Pittsburgh-area McDonald’s when a worm ended up in her mouth.
KDKA Radio’s Marty Griffin says the woman recently went through an unidentified McDonald’s location drive-thru and ordered the tea.
Griffin says the worm slid through the straw into her mouth as she was drinking the iced tea.
A video of the worm was posted online.
Griffin says he spoke to both the woman who is claiming she found the worm and the owner of the McDonald’s.
“He’s actually very cordial, very kind, wasn’t combative, wasn’t defensive,” said Griffin. They referred him to a PR firm.
He said that the woman making the claim doesn’t want any compensation and that she has been offered money, but only wants an apology and for action to be taken to prevent another issue in the future.
Other cases have been reported over the years of similar instances.
According to reports from around the country, the iced tea comes in a big metal container. In rare cases, when an iced tea container is not cleaned, worms can hatch from eggs.
“I’m not picking on McDonalds,” said Griffin. “My kids have eaten at McDonald’s since they were kids.”
He adds McDonald’s has done everything the woman has asked, thus far.
A woman in Kanawha County, West Virginia reported a worm in her sweet tea in 2023.
Griffin says he’s still talking with McDonald’s representatives and plans to have the woman on his show Tuesday morning.
