With the Fourth of July approaching, the City of Pittsburgh has activated its Fireworks Task Force.
The task force, made up of members of the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police and Fire, will begin responding to calls related to fireworks on Wednesday, July 2 through Saturday, July 5.
The task force aims to make sure legally bought fireworks are used safely.
The non-emergency number is 311, 911 for emergencies.
The city reminds residents that fireworks cannot be ignited or discharged on public or private property without the expressed permission of the property owner.
Fireworks cannot be discharged within 150 feet of a building or vehicle, regardless of whether the building or vehicle is owned by the user.
Fireworks are prohibited in all city parks and playing fields, and fireworks cannot be discharged in the direction of another person or used under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances.
“These restrictions are designed to keep everyone safe as we celebrate the Fourth of July. We ask that residents be mindful of their neighbors and their pets; a little consideration helps ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday for all,” said Lee Schmidt, Director of Pittsburgh Public Safety.
Also, Pittsburgh Public Safety is reminding residents to keep an eye on their pets that can get scared and run-away during fireworks displays.
