A local man was beaten and robbed Saturday while trying to deliver a pizza in Clairton, according to Allegheny County Police.

Clairton Police responded to a report of an armed robbery and assault around 9:40 p.m. on North Third St. Investigators discovered the victim was a pizza delivery driver in his sixties.

Police say the suspect or suspects got away with an unknown amount of money.

The victim was identified by his family as Steve Linn, who was attempting to make the last delivery of the night for Garletto's Pizza.

Hillary Siel owns Garletto's Pizza with her husband and is Linn's daughter-in-law. She said she took the call for the order and knew something was wrong when her father-in-law didn't come back.

The tracker on Linn's car also showed it hadn't moved from the delivery location for several minutes.

"I tried calling his phone and no answer," Siel said. "It went directly to voicemail. Then, a couple minutes later, I got a phone call from Allegheny County 9-1-1. They told me that Steve was unavailable to talk at the moment, that he is part of a crime scene."

Siel said her husband drove to Linn's car and found first responders attending to Linn, who was covered in blood.

"Our shop car was all covered in blood," she added. "The place where it happened is covered in blood."

Linn was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Siel said he is still unresponsive and will need brain surgery.

"He was in a coma that night, "she said. "We really didn't know if he was going to make it or not. We're still not sure if he's going to make it or not."

Siel believes whoever assaulted Linn placed the order intending to rob the driver. She said the caller initially tried to call on a blocked line, which is against the store policy. She told the caller to call back from a different number. When they did, Siel said they asked for the driver to bring change for $100.

"I'm sure even if you had told him to just give you the money, I'm sure he'll give it to you," she said. "It's really not worth his life."

Linn's family started a GoFundMe for his medical expenses.

Anyone with information about the assault can call the Allegheny County Police Tipline at 1-833-ALL-TIPS (1-833-255-8477); callers can remain anonymous. The department can also be reached via its social media sites.
