Now through the end of the Fourth of July weekend, Pennsylvania State police are conducting sobriety checkpoints and roving patrols to promote safe summer travel.
PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll says for last year's Fourth of July holiday period alone there were 279 crashes, resulting in four fatalities.
“Of those crashes, 47, 47 were alcohol-related resulting in one fatality and 38 injuries,” said Carroll.
He says 13 were drug related, resulting in five injuries. Carroll adds a Designated Driver is the person who has had nothing to drink, not the least to drink.
