Police in Ross investigating check washing scheme

Police in Ross Township are investigating a check washing scheme.

The Ross Police Department has posted a warning on Facebook that they have taken several reports from residents who have had checks cashed for larger amounts of money than what they were written for.

All the cases seem to tie back to the McKnight Road post office, specifically their outdoor drop boxes.

Police advice using the inside drop boxes at the post office when mailing personal checks or items containing sensitive information.

And if you suspect you are the victim of check washing, you are asked to call 911.

Check washing involves someone taking a stolen check and using chemicals to remove the previous amount and replace it with a new, higher cash amount.
