State Police say they saw a decrease in alcohol-related crashes over Thanksgiving weekend compared to last year, but DUI arrests were up.
Troopers investigated 970 crashes from Wednesday to Sunday, 48 of them alcohol-related and two of them fatal.
Compared to last year, there were about 700 less arrests and citations given out during the Thanksgiving period as well.
However, there were 539 DUI arrests across the state, compared to 533 last year. Child seat and seatbelt citations both saw a decrease, while speeding citations saw a drop.
Though most crashes in general tend to occur in the summertime, in the past three years, DUI crashes have been at their height during the November to January months.
Data does not include incidents handled by other law enforcement agencies, only those investigated by Pennsylvania State Police.
