Police issue warning after coyote reportedly follows kids at local park

Police in Bridgeville are warning of an incident involving a coyote over the weekend.

A coyote with her pups was seen around 9 p.m. on Friday at McLaughlin Park on McLaughlin Run Road.

The other reportedly hissed and followed children inside the park.

Police have alerted the Pennsylvania State Game Warden.

Out of an abundance of caution, police are asking pet owners to keep their dog on a leash and away from any wooded areas in the park.

If you see a coyote, police say, “do not make sudden moves or run. Slowly back away from the animal. Mothers will protect their pups if they feel threatened. In general coyotes normally avoid humans.”

Coyote sightings have increased over the past several years and have been spotted in parks and other wooded areas all across Western Pennsylvania.

Coyotes are present all cross the Commonwealth, especially in northern counties.
