Man that deliberately torched Ross Twp. ATM turns himself in

UPDATE: Ross Township Police say 46-year-old Keith Coyne of Ross turned himself in around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday.

He told police is was “upset with the federal government and viewed the banking industry as a branch of the government.”

He had written expletives on the gas can he used.

“This location was chosen by him because he felt he could make a statement in a safe way, as it is close to a fire station,” Deputy Chief of Police Brian Kohlhepp said in a release. “In addition, he knew the building would not catch and he felt that the fireman would not get hurt extinguishing a fire in the parking lot as they are professionals.”

Coyne is charged with two count of arson and one count of criminal mischief, both felonies.

Original story:

Ross Police are also investigating the deliberate torching of an ATM Machine at the Chase Bank by McKnight and Siebert Roads

They say just after midnight when a man showed up with a gas can, doused the ATM and then set it on fire.

The machine sustained only superficial damage.

Police say they don't think the man was trying to rob it, but that it was either a random act of violence or a statement against Chase or the banking industry as a whole.

If anyone can identify the man, are asked to call Ross Police at 412-931-9070.
