Police are looking for a group of people who tried to steal an ATM from the Cheswick Sheetz Monday night.
Allegheny Valley Regional Police Chief Michael Naviglia tells the Tribune Review that the group, believed to be juveniles, used a dolly to take the ATM out of the store.
But, before they could get into their pickup, a police officer arrived and they dropped the ATM and fled, leaving the damaged machine behind.
The juveniles took off and got away on Route 28.
The next day, Verona police arrested 59-year-old Jerry Chambers as he tried to return the same truck at Enterprise Rent-A-Car.
They do not believe Chambers was part of the attempted ATM theft.
Chambers is charged with attempted theft and use of instruments of a crime.
“Chambers has an extensive criminal history involving theft and burglary offenses dating back decades.,” police said in a release.
Police continue to look for the juvenile suspects.
