Police in Loudoun County, Virginia have provided an update after a Pitt student went missing in the Dominican Republic last week.

20-year-old Sudiksha Konanki, an Indian national, whose family is living in suburban Washington DC, was last seen in the early morning hours on a Punta Cana beach on Thursday morning.

Reports say Konanki was with a man who was questioned by investigators about her disappearance. There are also reports that she may have drowned while swimming.

But, the Loundoun County Sheriff’s Office says that they are still “hopeful for the safe return of Sudiksha Konanki.”

“There has been considerable public speculation about what may have happened to Konanki and who may be involved,” the sheriff’s office said. “We caution anyone from drawing any unsubstantiated conclusions and are committed to ensuring that a thorough investigation is conducted before any conclusions are reached.”

Police say that surveillance video and telephone records are being reviews and anyone that may have been seen with Konanki before she went missing.

The Sheriff’s Office says they’ve also filed a worldwide police alert for Konanki that will be issued by INTERPOL.
