PITTSBURGH (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) The Port Authority of Pittsburgh announced on Friday that it would be closing one of its own bridges after it was discovered to have shifted.

The Saw Mill Run Boulevard Bridge will be closed by the Port Authority until further notice for repairs.

Also known as the Palm Garden Bridge, built in 1977, spans over 1,000 feet, and carries only buses and the T, no pedestrian or civilian car travel happens on the bridge.

A Port Authority employee noticed that a joint on the deck of the bridge had expanded, causing engineers to notice the shift.

Extra caution is being made in the area following the Fern Hallow Bridge collapse.

The Saw Mill Run Boulevard Bridge was last inspected by Port Authority in October of 2020 and given a satisfactory rating.

The Port Authority will keep the bridge closed for repairs and detours will be made to the lines that take that route.

Red Line T cars will be detoured with the Blue/Silver Line from the Overbrook Junction to Downtown.

Bus detours will be posted on the Port Authority website when finalized.
