A Port Authority bus driver gets a sentence of probation for three years after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the death of a Pitt student struck by the bus she was driving a year ago.

The driver, 34-year-old Shavonne James, also plead guilty to one count of recklessly endangering another person in the January 18th, 2020 death of Pitt Student Barbara Como.

Court documents say Shavonne James was driving the bus that struck and killed Como at the intersection of DeSoto Street and Fifth Avenue in Oakland.

The Post-Gazette reports Como, of Chester Springs, Pennsylvania, was an Anthropology major at Pitt who was scheduled to graduate in the Spring of last year.

As part of the plea agreement, James will serve 3 years of probation as sentenced by the court, plus additional probation as determined by the district attorney's office.
