A district wide cellphone ban could be coming to the Pittsburgh Public Schools.

District Solicitor Elizabeth Sattler outlined a key part of it at an online policy workshop this week.

"The board would prohibit the use and or possession of any electronic devices, including cell phones, by students during the school day. Students would be allowed to bring the device with them to school, they'd be allowed to use it on the school bus and must turn the device into school personnel upon entry into the building," she said.

The ban would be in effect anywhere on school property. Currently 44 of the 57 schools in the district have a cellphone ban.
