A winter storm warning is in effect until 10 a.m. Friday, with up to 3 inches of snow and sleet in the forecast and as much as a quarter inch of ice, presenting a unique challenge for road crews.
It's supposed to start as rain, then transition to freezing rain, then snow. Because rain is in the mix, PennDOT's Ben DeVore says they can't treat the roads ahead of time.
He says because the system is supposed to move northwest to southeast, conversations with northern counties will be important to keeping tabs on the conditions.
The National Weather Service says the storm will be most impactful Thursday afternoon into Friday.
Because of rain in the forecast, crews couldn't treat the roads ahead of time, which could make for some icy conditions.
