The Pittsburgh Public School board votes tonight on next year's budget and it includes a tax hike.
The Pittsburgh Public Schools preliminary 2026 budget comes in at nearly $740 million, about a 2 percent decrease from this year.
District leaders say they’ve narrowed the deficit, but are asking the board to approve a 4 percent tax increase, the district’s first millage hike since 2021, to keep the shortfall around $7 million.
The school board is required to pass a budget before the end of the year, putting immediate pressure on newly elected directors.
The board is expected to vote Wednesday night at 6:30.
