Primanti Bros. on Penn Ave. abruptly closes Wednesday

One of Primanti Bros.’ locations in Pittsburgh has apparently closed for good.

The location at 5491 Penn Avenue in Garfield was closed on Wednesday after reportedly being open on Tuesday.

The location’s windows were covered and several signs were posted that said, “permanently closed” and “We thank you for your patronage.”

In a Facebook Post, John Colombo posted that the “sign is ripped off the building and brown paper is over the windows.”

"Through the normal course of business, we continually evaluate our portfolio to ensure our restaurants have the resources to achieve their growth potential," a Primanti Bros. spokesperson tells KDKA Radio. "We have known this lease agreement was ending, and after careful consideration, we made the decision not to renew the lease and instead focus on our four other locations within Pittsburgh city limits."

Primanti Bros. still operates several locations in Pittsburgh, including the original location in The Strip District, Market Square, South Side, Oakland and more.
