The Port Authority is installing purifiers to its entire fleet of buses and light rail cars.

These devices will be placed inside the passenger compartment, and the Port Authority says they will eliminate the virus that causes COVID-19, and other bacteria in the air and on surfaces.

About half of the bus fleet is now equipped with them, and rail cars will get the units early next year. The purifiers, along with HVAC filters, will soon be installed and cost $2.9-million.

According to the Port Authority, they were paid for with local, state and federal funding.
