Rachel Carson Bridge reopens in Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh's Ninth Street bridge, also known as the Rachel Carson Bridge, has reopened to traffic nearly two years after closing.

The bridge closed in February of 2019 for a $23.3 rehab.

The project included structural repairs, building a new concrete deck, installing new lights to resemble how the bridge looked in the 1920's and painting the bridge Aztec Gold.

In additional sidewalks were replaced and new lines for utilities were installed.

The bridge is one of the three sister bridges in the City. They are the only trio of identical bridges in the world.

This is the second of the three bridges to undergo rehabilitation. The first was the Andy Warhol Bridge (Seventh Street Bridge).

Work on the third, the Roberto Clemente Bridge (Sixth Street), is expected to begin in the fall of 2021 and be complete by spring of 2023.
