It's Rain Day in Waynesburg

Pittsburgh's Headlines: July 29, 2026

It's July 29th.... so, you know what that means, it's Rain Day in Waynesburg.

It’s a celebration that's been going on since 1874, when someone noticed it always seems to rain on July 29.

There had been some mystery as to who that someone was, but organizers say a few years ago they determined it was Caleb Ely, who was born on July 29, 1829.

Rain Day has even gathered national attention, including Willard Scott on the Today Show back in the 1980s.

The event has become a full-blown community festival with two stages offering musical acts until the evening.

There will be kids’ activities throughout the day as well including a number of mascots who will be strolling through.

Among them, the official mascot of Rain Day, Wayne Drop.

San Diego Padres pitcher Mason Miller, a former Waynesburg University player is involved in a special hat bet as well.

If it rains, he’ll send a Padres hat to the festival.

If it doesn't, he will receive a special Rain day hat. Chance of rain today, 20 percent.
