A Rankin woman is facing charges after police say a four-year-old was shot inside her home, initially reported as a dog attack.
On June 23, 42-year-old Ruth Hicks called 911 from her home in the 100 block of Rankin boulevard, reporting her four-year-old son had been attacked by the family dog.
Police say doctors later determined the child had actually suffered a gunshot wound to the pelvis.
Detectives say Hicks left a gun in her purse while two children played unsupervised, then instructed a third juvenile to dispose of ammunition and a spent shell casing.
Hicks is facing multiple charges including endangering the welfare of children, corruption of minors and tampering with physical evidence.
