Record number of illegal guns seized in Pittsburgh area

Officials say they've confiscated a record number of firearms in Southwestern Pennsylvania so far this year, with 47 guns seized through today following a series of investigations by multiple law enforcement agencies.

Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday says it’s a record for illegal guns seized in a one-month period.

Sunday says over 40 of those guns were seized in January.

The FBI's Christopher Giordano says a number of the weapons were taken from juveniles.

“These individuals are plaguing our communities and making it unsafe for our children to grow up in communities where you don’t have to worry about your child being abducted, being hurt, overdosing on drugs,” said Giordano.

He says kids are recruited because there's a false belief there will be no repercussions because they are minors.

Officers also seized over 12 pounds of cocaine, a pound of crack and over 60,000 doses of fentanyl.
