Three Pittsburgh Police officers lost their lives 15 years ago.

Those three officers, Eric Kelly, Stephen Mayhle, and Paul Sciullo of Zone 5, were killed in the line of duty on April 4, 2009.

Sciullo, Kelly and Mayhle were fatally shot while responding to a domestic disturbance call.

Police Chief Larry Scirotto released a statement to mark the date.

"On this day, we come together to honor their memory and pay tribute to their extraordinary lives," said Chief Scirotto. "Officers Kelly, Mayhle, and Sciullo exemplified the highest ideals of law enforcement - courage, dedication, and selflessness. They bravely answered the call to protect and serve, placing the safety of others above their own. Their unwavering commitment to our city and its people will forever be etched in our hearts."

Penguins President Kevin Acklin, who was friends with Sciullo, tells The Big K Morning Show the officers will be honored after the Penguin game on Saturday at PPG Paints Arena.

A “Battle of the Badges” game will take place after the game against Tampa with Police, Fire and EMS participating. Proceeds will benefit the Fallen Firefighters Fund and the Paul Sciullo Scholarship Fund.

Eric Kelly, Stephen Mayhle, and Paul Sciullo paid the ultimate price to serve and protect the city and community.

"Lest we forget."
