Report: Second Meijer store planned for Pittsburgh area

Meijer is looking to expand again in western Pennsylvania.

The grocery/retail chain is pursuing a second store in Butler County, this time in Jackson Township.

The Pittsburgh Business Times reports the Michigan-based retailer is exploring a 159,000 square foot supercenter as part of phase three of the Jackson Pointe Commerce Park, just off Route 19.

Township officials say the more than 40-acre site is already pad-ready, though no formal land development plans have been submitted.

Meijer recently announced its first western Pennsylvania location in Cranberry Township, at the corner of Franklin Road and Route 228, and says it plans to keep exploring opportunities across the region.

Meijer was founded 90 years ago in Greenville, Michigan and operates nearly 260 stores, mainly in the Midwest.

In addition to groceries, Meijer also sells electronics, outdoor items, clothing, shoes and more.

The closest Meijer location to Pittsburgh is currently about an hour away in Boardman, Ohio.
