A restaurant in Allegheny County previously under Consumer Alert after 20 violations during an inspection last month has been ordered closed.
The Allegheny County Health Department says Hunan Bar/Chuan Xiang Hui on Atwood Street in Oakland has a rodent infestation and five other issues considered “high risk”.
Inspectors found 19 total violations during a reinspection on Monday.
The Health Department says the restaurant has failed to “have a full pest assessment of facility” and a pest company has not been to the location.
Inspectors found moths and “evidence of feeding” in a bag of peanuts in a dry storage room. A black dried fungus in the same container was affected as well.
The reinspection also found up to 40 fresh mouse droppings on low shelving in a storage hallway, along with droppings in the cabinet of a women’s bathroom sink, back corner of a storage hallways, chew marks on a bag of rice to-go containers and fruit flies in the storage hallway and kitchen.
Cleaning and sanitation issues were also observed, including a worker rinsing a cutting board and knife and containing to use it for another item without properly washing it first. Several other items were found with old food residue.
In order for the closure to be lifted, old and new rodent droppings must be removed and area disinfected, all food contact surfaces need to be cleaned, at least two workers need to be Certified Food Protection Managers, create a “master cleaning schedule” and “retrain all staff of proper handwashing.”
