Police are investigating after a soon-to-open restaurant’s LED sign in the Pittsburgh area was hacked with racist messaging.
Mama Lena’s Firehouse Grill in Kennedy Township says the racist messages were posted to the LED sign on the fire truck outside the restaurant by a hacker.
“Our sign was hacked and accessed without our knowledge or permission, resulting in an inappropriate message being displayed,” the restaurant said in a message.
Mama Lena’s says the sign was shut down as soon as they were notified, the system was secured and steps have been taken to prevent a similar situation in the future.
The restaurant adds that they’ve notified Kennedy Township Police and are fulling cooperating with authorities.
“We understand the concern this may have caused and sincerely apologize for any confusion or offense,” the release says.
Mama Lena’s says they are continuing the process of opening their doors.
“This makes the situation even more unfortunate, as we’ve been working hard to build something positive for the community.”
An official opening date has not been announced.
