Allegheny County Police have announced the death of one of their horses.
“King” served with the Mounted Unit for 10 years before retiring in 2016.
King was a thoroughbred who was supposed to race, but instead, was donated to police from a from in Westmoreland County.
The 33-year-old King was on patrol for major events like the G20 summit in Pittsburgh, Super Bowl and Stanley Cup parades as well as many other events.
Police say King passed away early Wednesday morning at Round Hill Park in Elizabeth Township.
Round Hill Park is on over 1,100 acres of land that features farm animals. Thousands of kids visit every year to learn about the animals.
“RIP King. Thank you for a job well done,” Police wrote on Facebook.
