A former local weather-person has been diagnosed with a suspected brain condition connected to repeated hits to the head.
Jon Burnett, who worked for KDKA for almost 40 years, says he was diagnosed with suspected CTE.
He played football for ten years, including in college. KDKA-TV's Kristine Sorensen sat down with Burnett to get the full story and tells the Big K Morning Show CTE is only confirmed through an autopsy.
“But, now just since 2021, they’ve come up with diagnostic tools to determine what they believe is CTE,” said Sorensen. “It can’t be official until after (the person dies) but they now have some diagnostic criteria to say this looks like it is CTE.”
Burnett retired from KDKA-TV in 2019.
He played college football at Tennessee.
Sorensen said he feels its important that people know that repetitive head injures can cause more than concussions.
The full piece will air on KDKA-TV Monday night at 5:00.
