Saturday's Pittsburgh Riverhounds soccer match against Hartford was halted after a Pittsburgh player was accused of using "racially offensive language."
There was an altercation between two players and the referee ended the match after speaking with both coaches.
Hartford said its "players and ...staff did not feel comfortable proceeding" while the Riverhounds firmly denied "such language was used."
In a statement, the Riverhounds says, “Our organization takes any allegation of discriminatory or offensive language extremely seriously."
“At the same time, we stand by our player and firmly deny that such language was used. We will fully cooperate with the league’s investigation into the matter,” the statement adds.
Hartford has asked the league to investigate.
The game was called with the Hounds leading 2-1.
