We're learning more about Pittsburgh's rumored top choice for police chief.
Ryan Lee stepped down after two controversial years as chief in Boise, Idaho.
Former KDKA Radio host, Kevin Miller, now doing mornings at KIDO in Boise, told The Big K Morning Show Monday, “Ryan Lee was the biggest mistake Boise Mayor Lauren McLean ever made.”
A report by KTVB says nine Boise officers filed complaints against Lee last year and six officers retired because, in one officer's words, "it was impossible to function under Lee."
The Idaho Statesman reported Lee resigned at the request of McLean.
In 2021, Lee allegedly broke an officer’s neck while conducting a restraint demonstration with staff.
The Idaho Statesman obtained a letter that said there was evidence that Lee committed a crime, but not “beyond a reasonable doubt.”
It has also been reported that Lee would insult his staff calling them derogatory names.
But Miller says that he has heard from several people within the Boise Police Department, that Lee interviews “exceptionally well, he’s a savant in the interview process.”
The Post-Gazette reports two other names are also being considered two former Pittsburgh Police Officers, Jason Lando and Larry Scirotto.
Mayor Ed Gainey is expected to make an official announcement in the next couple weeks.
