Former Pennsylvania State Representative Sara Innamorato will be the next Allegheny County Executive.
Innamorato carried the county with a large number of Democrats within the City of Pittsburgh. Many communities north of Pittsburgh went for Rockey, making the racer closer than some expected.
Rockey was unable to overcome a large Democratic majority in Allegheny County. He needed a strong turnout from GOP voters as well as Independents and over 25 percent of Democrats.
A crowd of a couple hundred gathered inside Mr. Smalls Theater to celebrate the progressive Democrat's win.
In her victory speech, Innamorato promised to tackle violence, poverty and addiction as well as having a transparent administration and bringing green jobs to the area.
While she didn't mention Rockey by name, she did thank him.
She will take over for Rich Fitzgerald in January.
