It's been closed to vehicular traffic for several years, but a neighborhood group wants to see a Schenley Park road reopened to automobiles.
City Council has given preliminary approval to schedule a public hearing on reopening Serpentine Drive to cars.
The winding road, a key part of the Vintage Grand Prix course each year, has been off limits to automobiles beyond that because of structural problems along a stretch of the wall.
Only bicyclists and pedestrians have been allowed to use it.
But now the Squirrel Hill Historical Society wants to have it reopened, successfully submitting a petition to council.
The Society says the road was always intended to be a driving road, and that closing it to cars after a $2.5 million-dollar repair job doesn't make sense.
