SEA approves transfer of PPG Paints Arena lease to Hoffman Family

The Hoffman Family of Companies is buying the Pittsburgh Penguins

The Penguins are a step closer to new ownership.

The Sports and Exhibition Authority approved Thursday transfer of the arena lease to the Hoffman Family of Companies.

But the SEA also said Fenway Sports Group failed to deliver on its promises when it bought the team in 2021 and called on FSG to donate some of its $800 million profit from the sale to redevelopment in the lower Hill District.

Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato released a statement saying, in part, “I welcome the Hoffman Family as a new ownership group. We’ve had positive initial meetings, and as a new owner I hope they’ll approach the franchise with a spirit of community investment and partnership.”
