Entercom, Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and Giant Eagle partner for second Feed the Need radiothon

Entercom Pittsburgh will host its second “Giant Eagle Feed the Need Radiothon” to benefit Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

The radiothon, which will come on the one-year anniversary of the Food Bank’s initial COVID response, aims to support those in the region utilizing the emergency drive-up distribution sites and food pantries in and around the Pittsburgh region. Last year’s Radiothon provided more than 1.5 million meals to the region.

Giant Eagle’s Feed the Need will be broadcast live on 100.1 FM and AM 1020 (KDKA-AM), 93.7 The Fan (KDKA-FM), 100.7 Star (WBZZ-FM) and Y108 (WDSY-FM) on Tuesday, March 16 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. ET.

We look forward to continue deepening our efforts alongside Entercom to combat food insecurity in our region.”

“Last year we rallied the region and provided 1.5 million meals to support Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. We are excited to offer our support again this year with the help from tremendous partners,” said Michael Spacciapolli, Senior Vice President and Market Manager, Entercom Pittsburgh. “Pittsburghers are there for each other when there is need. Radio reaches into our community and we want to use our voice to serve our great city.”

During the radiothon, 100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA, 93.7 The Fan, 100.7 Star and Y108 will broadcast live throughout the day, featuring hourly interviews and updates focused on the fundraising effort to support those in need. Listeners are encouraged to donate online and via phone call or text message.

The need across southwestern Pennsylvania has increased dramatically because of COVID-19.The pandemic has resulted in a 42 percent increase in food insecurity in the region. The Food Bank, with the aid of local supporters and partners, provided nearly 37 million pounds of food to 11 counties in Southwestern Pennsylvania between March 16 and December 31, 2020. The Food Bank was founded in Pittsburgh’s Hill District in 1980 to support those dealing with unemployment after the collapse of the steel Industry.
