Several tree stand accidents reported to start deer rifle season

The Pennsylvania Game Commission is reminding hunters of the danger of falling from an elevated tree stand.

So far in 2025, there have been four fatal falls in the Commission's ten county Southwest Region.

Spokesman Andy Harvey says there have only been a handful of accidental shootings of a hunter this year, including one in this area.

“It was small game hunting so, it was use of a shotgun and bird shots, small BBs, I believe hit a person, do not believed it caused any serious injuries though,” said Harvey.

Last year, there were 19 such shootings in all of Pennsylvania. Two of them were fatal.

The Game Commission says hunting-related shooting incidents have dropped 80 percent since hunter education training began in 1959.
