Shaler Schools postponing start of year after threat, suspect arrested

UPDATE: Allegheny County Sheriff’s Deputies have taken 28-year-old Daniel White in custody. He’s charged with three counts of terroristic threats for comments he made on Sunday, threating to kill students at a Shaler Area school.

Sheriff's deputies recognized White's name and saw him in court, even thought he wasn't scheduled to appear Monday.
They knew of White “from his involvement with Mental Health Court . . . The deputy made contact with Daniel White a short time later in the courthouse and took him into custody,” according to a release.

Shaler Area schools are postponing the start of classes until Wednesday.

It was supposed to happen tomorrow but a letter from the superintendent said the police department was alerted Monday morning of a threat referencing Shaler Schools.

The person behind the threat is believed to have no connection with the district.

Out of an abundance of caution, orientation day for students in Kindergarten and grades 4, 7 and 9, has been postponed to tomorrow and the first day of school for the entire district is now Wednesday.
