Governor Josh Shapiro released a statement Thursday about the status of U.S. Steel's proposed sale to a Japanese steelmaker.

The statement says Mr. Shapiro is engaging with workers, the private sector and the Biden Administration to find a solution that protects Pennsylvania jobs.

Comment from Gov. Shapiro Spokesman Manuel Bonder:

"Since the day this proposed deal was announced, Governor Shapiro has been in dialogue with all parties involved – and his top priority has been protecting Pennsylvania workers and fighting for the future of steelmaking in our Commonwealth.

As the Governor continues to engage with workers, the private sector, and the Biden Administration, the last thing the situation calls for is irresponsible political rhetoric and threats against the workers of Western Pennsylvania.

While a determination about this deal will ultimately be made by the Biden Administration, Governor Shapiro and his team have been and continue to work closely with all parties to find a solution that protects Pennsylvania jobs.”
