Somerset Co. Sheriff charged with corruption of minor after 'Shop with a Cop' event

PA Attorney General Dave Sunday has announced charges corruption of minor charges against the Somerset County Sheriff after a “Shop with a Cop” event last year.

Sunday’s office says Sheriff Dustin Weir is charged with a misdemeanor corruption of minors charge after the event at a local Walmart where he allegedly asked a 15-year-old girl inappropriate questions and attempted to take uncomfortable photos

An investigation shows that Weir “pressured a 15-year-old girl to accompany him to the store aisle where condoms were sold, then attempted to photograph the girl next to the condoms. Weir also directed explicit comments and questions to the girl.”

The girl was assisting during the event at a photo booth when Weir went up to her and asked her to join him. Sunday’s office says the girl felt pressured and followed him to the aisle with the condoms.

“The facts in this case outline lewd acts committed by a law enforcement leader who swore an oath to protect his community and set an example for fellow officers,” Attorney General Sunday said. “This type of conduct harms the image and reputation of law enforcement officers who spend their days making sacrifices to keep communities safe. Criminal behavior will not be tolerated, regardless of occupation, title, or rank.”
