South Side bar shuttering until city leaders take action

A bar on the South Side is closing down temporarily for the first time in nearly 20 years.

Carson City Saloon at 1401 East Carson Street says in a message posted to Facebook that they are shuttering their doors until action is taken by "city leaders" to curb violence.


A man was fatally wounded early Sunday. It happened about 1 a.m. when seven rounds were detected by ShotSpotter in the 1300 block of Sarah Street.

Officers found the man in his 30s at the intersection of South 13th Street and East Carson.

He had a gunshot wound to a shoulder. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead.

Video obtained by KDKA Radio's Marty Griffin shows the chaos that unfolded after the shots were fired.

After Saturday's three shootings and the careless activity that continues to go unchecked on Carson Street, we have decided it's best to shutter our doors until some action is taken by city leaders to support our desire to return the Southside to a safe and prosperous neighborhood and nightlife district.

Carson City Saloon hopes to reopen sometime in mid-August.
