South Side bar under review by nuisance bar task force

The Allegheny County District Attorney’s office confirms that an establishment on East Carson Street is under review by the Nuisance Bar Task Force.

Capo’s Bar has been the scene of multiple incidents of violence in recent weeks.

Two weekends ago, a man was arrested, accused of fighting with a woman.

That was followed by an large and unruly crowd leaving Capo’s and heading onto the streets.

Pepper spray was used to help clear the crowd in that instance.

D.A. Stephen Zappala's office released the following statement:

Based on multiple media requests, the District Attorney’s Office can confirm that administratively, the licensing of the establishment referred to as Capo’s Bar, is currently the subject of review by the Allegheny County Nuisance Bar Task Force. The Office cannot comment about on-going investigations.

And, city leaders and South Side business owners are reacting to this past weekend's incident on East Carson Street where people in a large crowd threw fireworks and rocks at police.

Council member Bob Charland shared his thoughts, telling KDKA-TV, police showed restraint and he doesn’t like the way officers are treated.

Charland says the city will be asking the county and State Police for assistance on the South Side.

He also says the city will announce later this week a new plan to limit weekend violence.

Around 2 a.m. Saturday, police say some in the crowd starting throwing the rocks and fireworks at officers and their vehicles.

Pittsburgh Public Safety says at that point, the officers used pepper spray. It took about an hour to clear the area and six people were arrested.
