Thomas Stanko guilty of first-degree murder in killing of ex-girlfriend

the body of Cassandra Gross was never found

A jury has found Thomas Stanko guilty of first-degree murder in the killing of his ex-girlfriend, Cassandra Gross in 2018.

KDKA-TV reports Stanko was also found guilty of reckless burning, but not guilty of third-degree murder.

The jury made its decision after a week-long trial in Westmoreland County.

Gross was first reported missing in April 2018, and she was officially declared dead in early 2019.

Her car was burned days after her disappearance, and despite never finding her body, officials charged Stanko with homicide.

Prosecutors said that clothing, glasses and other items were found burned on Stanko's property.
