State lawmakers want to crack down on Turnpike Toll evaders--including creating a new felony for the worst offenders.
State Senators Judy Ward and Kim Ward have introduced legislation to create a new series of offenses aimed at going after drivers who repeatedly fail to pay tolls.
Kim Ward says the scoff laws impact everyone:
"We all pay it, but I and you and everyone else that pays their Turnpike fee are paying more because some people aren't paying what they're supposed to be."
She says the Turnpike has lost more than 200 million dollars in uncollected tolls.
Last year, the Attorney General announced it would file civil charges against drivers who have racked up more than 12-thousand dollars in unpaid tolls.
