State police are warning about an increase in "sextortion" cases, using artificial intelligence.
They say scammers are using AI to alter photographs of victims into explicit images and then threaten to share the images with friends and family unless they are paid a large sum.
The images are typically taken from social media or shared with the suspect.
State police say the fake images often "indistinguishable" from real images.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received more than 10,000 sextortion-related reports last year.
