Kennywood opens for its 126th season this Saturday, but one popular ride will not be up and running.
The Steelers-themed, “Steel Curtain” coaster will be out of commission for the entire 2024 season.
Ricky Spicuzza, Assistant General Manager at Kennywood made the announcement in a video posted to the amusement park’s Facebook page.
Spicuzza says after months of working with 3rd-party engineers and the ride’s manufacturer, a long-term solution has been discovered.
But, the “extensive modification project” will take the entire season to fix.
The “Steel Curtain” has been closed several times since opening in 2019 for adjustments and repairs.
Even though the 'Steel Curtain' will be unavailable, many new features will great parkgoers when Kennywood opens on Saturday.
The park has renovated its bumper cars into a Potato Patch-themed ride.
The Turtle ride, near the Thunderbolt has been restored, along with Aero 360.
A new pub is opening as well, based on a popular mascot from the 1970s making his return, Jeeters.
Jeeters’ Pub will have eight draft beers from Pittsburgh brewery, wings, pub snacks, charcuterie boards and more.
An all-new American-themed restaurant called Carousel Burger Co. commemorates Kennywood’s “historic past in the park’s original Merry-Go-Round pavilion.”
Burgers, milkshakes and more will be available at the “bigger and better” restaurant.
