KDKA Radio has confirmed that Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Justin Layne was arrested Friday morning near Cleveland, Ohio.

He's charged with speeding, driving with a suspended license, and a firearm violation.

Friday afternoon, the Pittsburgh Steelers released the following statement to News Radio KDKA:

"We are aware of the incident but still gathering information. We will have no further comment at this time."

The incident happened shortly before 1:30am Friday in Willoughby Hills. He is currently being held in the Lake County Jail.

The Police Chief of Willoughby Hills tells News Radio KDKA that Justin Layne was driving 89 mph in a 60 mph zone and stopped for speeding.

Two other men in the car are not charged.

He says Layne had an outstanding warrant for his arrest on a previous traffic violation.

An officer found marijuana in the car after smelling it as the two passengers stepped out of the vehicle. During a search of the vehicle, he found a loaded 9mm Glock in center console of the car.

In addition to the charges for the traffic-related violations, Layne has been charged with Improper Handling of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle, a felony of the fourth degree.

According to the police report, when he was asked about the gun, Layne told the arresting officer that he "forgot it was in there."

The police report also states that while in the back seat of the police vehicle, Layne made several phone calls. During the calls he can be heard making what report says are "incriminating" statements:

"They might get me for the pistol."

"It's over, I'm going down."

"F**k the warrant, I aint's trying to go to jail for the gun."

"They acting like I got some drugs, I got one blunt."

Layne is originally from Cleveland, Ohio.
