Stadiums across the country are taking precautions following the deadly New Year's attack in New Orleans.
That includes Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh where the Steelers are set to host their regular season finale this weekend.
Spokesman Burt Lauten tells KDKA Radio in a statement:
We are confident in the security measures that we take for any football game or event at Acrisure Stadium to ensure our fans have a safe experience as possible. Local authorities and League security personnel are part of our preparation plans for every home game at our stadium so that our fans can enjoy an entertaining experience.
Pittsburgh Police tell KDKA Radio they work “directly with the Steelers and League security personnel to plan for, and staff every home game.”
“While we don't release operational numbers regarding the number of police working in and around the stadium, or the exact security measures that are taken, the Bureau is confident in the planning process and the security that is in place, both of which are adjusted according to the needs of each game,” said spokesperson Cara Cruz. “The Bureau does this in conjunction with the NFL and the Steelers organization and is poised to increase staffing as warranted.”
The Steelers are set to host the Cincinnati Bengals Saturday at 8 p.m.
The College Football Playoff Sugar Bowl game between Notre Dame and Georgia at the Caesars Superdome was postponed a day in New Orleans following the attack that killed 14 people and injured 30 on Bourbon Street.
There are playoff implications for the Steelers game. If the Baltimore Ravens lose to the Cleveland Browns, a Steelers win means they’ll host a first-round playoff game in Pittsburgh.
If the Ravens win, they will be playing for playoff positioning.
