The bald eagle couple at U.S. Steel Irvin Works in West Mifflin welcomed a second egg late Sunday night.
It happened just after 8:40 p.m. when the female, Stella, laid the egg, while snow fell on the nest.
“This is an exciting milestone as we watch the next generation of bald eagles come to life,” a post from PixCams said on social media early Monday.
She laid her first egg on Thursday with her mate “Irv” close by.
"Stella is new to the nest and replaced Claire when she left the nest late last year," a representative for U.S. Steel told KDKA Radio in a statement. "This marks the 6th season for Irvin at the nest. If the egg is viable, it could hatch in as little as 35 days. This will make the 8th eaglet born at U. S. Steel’s nest."
The nest was built in 2019 on the property of U.S. Steel Irvin Works.
This is Stella’s first year in the nest and Irvin’s sixth year.
