On Thursday morning the White House warned the nation of a looming energy crisis as demand for AI technology increases. Three projects announced at the Energy and Innovation Summit will respond to America’s growing need for electricity.
First, Westinghouse plans to build ten of its large AP1000 nuclear reactors around the US. The economic impact in Southwestern PA is projected to be $6 billion and 15,000 jobs.
Next, a redevelopment group plans to buy $15 billion of natural gas from EQT to fuel the largest plant of its type in Homer City.
Finally, the Frontier Group plans to spend over $3 billion to convert a coal-fired power plant in Shippingport to a natural gas-powered plant.
Three huge wins for the region.
Another summit success was Governor Josh Shapiro’s participation in a panel discussion with Senator Dave McCormick along with Senator John Fetterman’s support for the event.
